Optometric Technician - Experienced

Our client is looking for a full time experienced ophthalmic/optometric technician for their established and fast-growing optometry practice with a collaborative, team-focused culture.  They take pride in doing their jobs and helping their patients by delivering the best and most thorough care possible. They are looking for people who not only have technical experience but also possess exceptional communication skills with patients and team members alike.  A customer service attitude and a strong team focused work ethic are essential to success in our practice.  

In your role as an optometric technician, you will work up patients in preparation to see the providers.  Tasks include pre-ops, post-ops on cataract and LASIK/PRK patients, pre-testing, well vision, rechecks, contact lens patients, and triage.  Additionally, you will check VA, pupils, refracting, tonometry, and dilation, as well as, perform any necessary testing ( VF, O.C.T., Fundus photography).  Accurate and fast documentation skills within a practice management and EMR are a must.  Revolution EHR and/or Compulink EMR experience a plus.

This position requires a high level of independence and strong client service skills. Organizational ability is important to keep track of all tasks, because the job requires a great deal of multi-tasking. You are likely to perform many different tasks, such as billing, scheduling, payment processing and clinical testing for multiple patients simultaneously.  The quality and accuracy of your work and attention to detail is paramount to your success in this role. 

This is not a job for someone who wants to do the same thing from day to day – there is a lot of variety and a lot of opportunity. 


  • Appropriately document physician examination findings in the electronic medical record.
  • Ability to assess patient needs and keep patients flowing through the office, altering the test sequence as required.
  • Ability to educate and sell additional services or products that may be beneficial to a patient.
  • Patient scheduling over the phone and in person
  • Patient check-in including scanning of all forms and ID cards into EHR
  • Patient check-out including credit card processing and thorough clinical documentation.
  • Order processing with vendors for patient glasses and contact orders
  • Inventory management of frames and sample contacts including inventory stocking and routine replacement order processing
  • Demonstrable experience with insurance billing and claim processing accuracy


  • 2-5 years experience as a ophthalmic/optometric technician
  • Eye care experience working directly with clinicians and patients a huge plus
  • Other healthcare industry experience also a plus
  • Proven customer service skills required
  • Hands on experience with eye care clinical testing equipment required
  • High School Diploma, College Degree Preferred
  • Demonstrate a thorough working knowledge of Microsoft–based software
  • Clinical billing and clinical documentation experience with an EMR and practice management system required
  • Ability to learn administrative tasks quickly
  • Ability to establish priorities, work independently and proceed with objectives without supervision
  • Ability to develop/follow standard processes and complete documentation as needed
  • Ability to handle and resolve recurring problems, including escalation as needed when you require outside assistance
  • Ability to communicate well with patients, including clear explanations of billing and ordering issues
